FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,” and was  was founded by Dean Kamen in 1989.  As an entrepreneur and inventor himself, Dean Kamen had the vision to inspire younger children with programs based in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The FIRST Robotics programs allow high school students to explore engineering and engage in real life situations.  As robotics is a multi-discipline field, students can learn the fundamentals of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineering. In addition, students have the opportunity to devolop valuable, and non-technical skills in multiple areas: critical thinking, teamwork, business, communication, marketing, and Gracious Professionalism. FIRST currently offers four different programs to target different age groups with varying levels of intensity.
